The new UI is as ugly as hell

Don't understand me wrong, the new UI features are cool, but the colors of the UI are as ugly as hell.

I don't like the black UI, I love the blue, I am used to it, it has been there since years, and I would love to continue using it for years.

The new UI is very uncomfortable, and depressing, staring at darkness for 8+ hours every day is not what I want.

The only think that prevented me from going to Linux is the UI there, now Windows is no different, ugly colors, but cool animation.

Hey, if you love the black colors it is totally fine, in my case, will wait for Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1, then what's new will be: hey, we have the lovely light colors again :-)

Note: run a survey about the OS colors, and exclude your beta testers from that one, have a survey against the real world, use real users, the beta testers and supporters are the once that will be making the long lines in front of the stores, but that's just the first day, in the days after, the real word is the one who you must be targeting.

It is what the customer likes, not what the company thinks it is cool.

First of all, why don't you put yourself some nice bright wallpaper picture? I didn't find any of those standard coming with Vista as too dark. Besides, you may choose the color of your windows, set their transparency if you can run glass, where do you stare actually? It's all so light on the screen. The only 2 dark things is the taskbar and the caption of maximized window. I find it perfect personally, it looks profesional and doesn't pull the attention down from the useful information inside of the Windows. Although I can't say I like the status part of Explorer window that is made in blue-green colors. This one is really ugly, why not to allow customization here?
In general I agree: Microsoft should allow a bit more of simple color and shape customization like it was originally in the Windows 2000. User has to be able to choose the color and the level of transparency of the taskbar, windows, background, etc. "G.T." <-> wrote in message Don't understand me wrong, the new UI features are cool, but the colors of the UI are as ugly as hell.

No it's not.

Waiting for Service Pack 1 does not make sense, its still gonna look the same. You do realise you can actually change the colours and virtually everything, you don't have to stick with what's displayed by default? I'm not sure about the XP look though, I did hear that they will be including this though, but I don't know if this is true (certainitely you will still have the old Windows 2000-look, grey windows, etc., there) "G.T." <-> wrote in message Don't understand me wrong, the new UI features are cool, but the colors of the UI are as ugly as hell.

I hope Plus! for Vista isn't the disappointment Plus! for Windows XP was. Geesh how about some *real* new themes and not just reworkings of one's already there. And demo versions for games !?? At least they corrected the situation for Labyrinth - which is a very fun game.
Ideas for Plus! for Windows Vista:
-real games , not demos .. not even the hint of demos .. nor vague wafts of the odour of demos -real new themes .. not just re-works with wallpaper -new screen savers - make them pass a 'worth looking at' test before including them - some unique Aero Windows effects -keep the aquarium screensaver - just too good to drop -some widgets for the sidebar - including a new clocks -two years of Hotmail Plus! -enhancements to movie maker -Digital DJ etc. -The Dancers of course -a set of utilites .. sort of like a Resource Kit .. to enhance performance analysis and the enhance the command-line for the tinkerer e.g. -the Power Toys all installed appropriate to Windows version.
Everyone will want to pop the 40 bucks and retailers will have a reason to recommend it, not disparrage it.

Yes. I didn't get the thing until it came out as a Superpack.

I am using the XP styles not the 2000 once, and when they came, they were one step toward better user interface, and I started using them since the beta of XP.

But I simply can't say that about Vista, the first thing I did was trying to get my old XP style back; the effects and new features are very nice, the smaller windows toolbars, larger icons in the explorer, more space on the desktop, etc. all of the new things are just right.

But clicking on the new button of darkness (the new start button, or Windows Logo button) and that dark window that opens, it is just depressing.

And these colors are just going everywhere, even the new office, now all is just dark, having a wallpaper behind helps, but having the entire UI dark is not that a good idea.

The Windows XP colors are just right, they are not the old Windows 2000 ugly interface, and the idea is just right; and I am not saying that I want the UI as XP, just want the XP style improved to the level of the new Vista Glass style.

The same is happening with the new MSN 8, everyone there is complaining how ugly it became, the MSN 7.5 UI was just right, now just for the sake of change it is been changed, the same is with Windows.

About the explorer, I hate Linux because of they way you are navigating the file system there, plus other things, I guess Windows now is a bit closer, having a tree on the left is just the right design, and people have 15 years of experience using that, even before windows, there can be nothing better than it, it gives you full control over the navigation of the file system, and instead of Microsoft building over it, they simply changed it.

It is a major OS, not a computer game for a small group of fans, well, the group will be happy, and they are, the developers of Windows are happy, the beta feedback is good, but what about the real world ? :-)

Microsoft seems to be releasing Service Packs on a 2 year cycle. Expect SP-1 about 2 years after Vista release so you have almost 3 years to wait..

Please post in plain text. Thanks and have a 'nice one.
Now you say you find the new 'theme' depressing !?
I don't. I find it has a sort of business exec look. A nice step away from the over-bright telly-tubby land look of the default XP desktop. I must admit I like the blue of XP though.
And the transcluecent stuff is nice. It's nice, toned down and not too Mac like. To me, it has sort of a low-key sophisitcated look. And with the right wall-paper even refreshing. 'Should be fun.

It is all business at the end, I love writing code, but I must get paid for it at the end, the same is with Vista.
Look
at it this way: - At one point Vista will be put for testing in the businesses and the end users will have their opinion. - If they are happy, the business will expand the installation to all desktops, and Microsoft will sell more. - If they are not, someone will complain about the UI, and Microsoft will simply fix it, or the product may no sell as it was expected too.
It
is a product at the end; it is not like 10 years ago when you had once choice only, it is a product like any other, it must sell, and it can sell only if the people like it.
Thinking about that again, when you look at the people outside, most of the men love dark colors, most of the women love whiter colors, most of the kids love mixed colors, and the teenagers have their own unique style.
Businesses are darker colors, but the blue is just the most appealing color to all, water, sky, sea, vacation, relaxation, etc. it reminds the people of something nice.
Anyway, after spending a day complaining about the new UI, I guess I am getting used to it, but having more than one choice in the final product will be nice to have, otherwise, do provide the world of an easier way to build themes for Vista.

I like it a lot. I don't think the windows with transparency look all that

much like glass (maybe more like plastic with streaks in it), but the buttons, icons, etc. do. A lot of people say that Vista looks like a Mac, but I don't think so. I think there are many differences between a Mac and a Windows-based computer as far as the UI. I believe you can change the color scheme, so if you don't like the dark colors, don't worry about it. Considering what some people originally predicted Vista was going to look like two or three years ago, I'm very glad it didn't take the path that it looked like it was going to take.
I have my feelings in the future Microsoft will have reflections as well as shadows. Windows will reflect off of the taskbar and icons will reflect off of the desktop, and an open window will shade over other windows instead of just a shadow. That's just my prediction for the future. This would be very good if this were to happen. No truth to it as far as I know, however.

Personally, I'd rather have an OS that can stay up for weeks than a pretty OS.
FWIW,
I run Windows Classic on XP.
'nuff said.

I don't exactly care what the default look is, although I must say the Vista look is lot more professional than the XP Luna look. But I use Windowblinds so I can have my OS look how I want anyway, and change it periodically as well, not just tweak colors, but the whole look. Variety is the spice of life so they say.
